COURT: Damien Hooper will return to court on October 27.

DARLING Downs boxer Damien Hooper appeared in custody before Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday on an assault charge.

Damien Duncan Hooper, 23, stood quietly dressed in prison issue browns as solicitor Peter Sloane, acting on behalf of Hooper's barrister, asked for an adjournment.

The promising light heavyweight boxer was not required to enter any pleas to the charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and contravening a domestic violence order.

Both charges arise from alleged incidents in Toowoomba on June 13.

Mr Sloane told the court Hooper's legal representatives had received the police brief of evidence but were yet to go through the file with their client.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck noted Hooper was on bail for these charges but was in custody due to the suspension of his parole.

Hooper told Mr Schemioneck he was waiting to hear from the parole board this week as to when he would be released from the Gatton prison.

Mr Schemioneck enlarged Hooper's bail, which included conditions of having no contact with or going within 100m of the male complainant, and adjourned the case for hearing mention back in the same court on October 27.
