UPDATE: THERE was nothing anyone could do but watch as a boat went to a muddy and watery grave in the Fitzroy River this morning.

Fishermen, boaties, police and passers-by watched as the vessel sunk in a matter of minutes and it's contents, including eskies, floated downstream.

All that can be seen of the blue vessel now is its mast, which is sticking up out of the water near the Fitzroy River flood marker on Quay St.

The Morning Bulletin understands Rockhampton police are in contact with the owners of the boat, as well as Fitzroy River officials.
