Bennett tips ‘comfortable’ Daly Cherry-Evans to fire

BRISBANE'S rapidly developing halves combination of Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford faces its acid test tonight against Manly's representative duo Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran in a blockbuster at Suncorp Stadium

Despite not being named by Manly, Cherry-Evans is expected to make a comeback from the shoulder injury that ruled him out of Origin I.

If he does, he will face a potentially hostile crowd ready to vent its feelings at his decision to renege on a deal to join the Gold Coast Titans in 2016.

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett did not want to buy into the morals of the backflip, but he said he expected the 26-year-old would be comfortable the moment he took the field tonight.

"It will be a relief because football is what he does and when he runs on to the footy field he'll feel that's where he should be, so he'll play well," Bennett said when asked if Cherry-Evans would be mentally ready after copping a bollocking over his decision.

The master coach was uncertain how fans would react, but said the star halfback obviously believed he had done nothing wrong.

"What I can tell you is he has made his decision, he's moving on and I reckon the rest of us should too," Bennett said. "He's a good footballer and I am pleased he is playing tonight."

Bennett said the clash of the halves would be one of the highlights of the match.

"They (Cherry-Evans and Foran) are the best in New South Wales and Hunt and Milford want to be the best in Queensland, so it sets up a wonderful contest," he said.
