Beer bottle cast at school bus jolts students
A DELIBERATE act of foolishness could have cost young lives after a member of the public tossed a glass beer bottle at a Rockhampton school bus which had more than 15 students on board.
The Heights College School bus was just starting its Yeppoon run on Monday afternoon when a bystander, on the Rockhampton-Yeppoon Rd, hurled the glass bottle at the front window, shattering the entire glass pane and putting the driver's life at risk.
A concerned Bondoola parent, who did not wish to be named, said her daughter was that shaken up from the incident she called her mum to pick her up at a drop off point well-before her regular stop.
"My daughter was frightened the window might shatter and cave in," the mum said.
"We live out on a dirt road and my daughter was afraid that if the bus hit that road the entire window would smash.
"The bus driver, my daughter said, acted in the students' best interests and drove carefully."
Yesterday Heights College business manager Ben Head confirmed no one was injured and the students were delivered to their homes safely.
Yesterday a temporary bus carried out the delivery run in place of the damaged vehicle. Mr Head said the school contacted the police about the dangerous act and were helping them with their investigations.
Police confirmed the incident and were looking for the offenders.
