Barker likely to stay with Blues as an assistant

AFTER missing out on the head coaching role at Carlton following his 14-week stint as caretaker coach, John Barker could be confirmed as an assistant to new mentor Brendon Bolton as early as next week.

The Blues are finalising a new-look coaching panel, which could include former Crows coach Neil Craig as a director of coaching.

Barker is due to head overseas this week with several assistant coaches from other AFL clubs as part of an educational tour organised by the AFL Coaches Association.

The group will visit English Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham, as well as the headquarters of Formula One team McLaren, Saracens and Harlequins rugby clubs and Loughborough University.

Other coaches on the tour include Justin Longmuir (West Coast), David Teague (Adelaide), Steven King (Bulldogs) and Damian Carroll (Hawthorn).
