Australia book spot in quarter-final of IRB Sevens Series

NEW Zealand may have already won the IRB Sevens World Series, but Australia had the chance to finish the year on a high in London overnight.

Australia booked a Cup quarter-final clash against surprise packets the United States at Twickenham in the ninth and final round of the 2014 series after winning two of its three pool games.

Second-placed South Africa beat the Aussies 5-0, before Michael O'Connor's team bounced back with wins against the United States (19-15) and France (35-12).\

The Kiwis, who clinched their 11th series title in 14 seasons last week, won all three of their pool games.
