Auditions open for South Pacific
AUDITIONS for the Ipswich Orpheus Chorale's biggest performance of the year will be held next Monday.
Musical director Tom Keenan said auditions for the popular musical South Pacific were open to the general public as well as chorale members.
"We have a number of principal roles as well as some minor ones," he said.
"We are looking to have quite a young cast but the cast is quite large and anyone can audition.
"Performing live is an unforgettable experience, especially if you haven't done it before."
Mr Keenan said South Pacific would be performed at the Ipswich Civic Centre in October.
"It's a very popular musical and has a lot of memorable songs," he said.
"It will be a great one for audiences to get involved with.
"Set in an island paradise during World War II, the nostalgic Rodgers and Hammerstein classic follows a love story that is threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war."
Mr Keenan, who is celebrating his 25th year with the chorale, said a fully staged orchestra would make for a memorable performance for the selected cast.
"It's our major production for the year," he said.
"We are looking to get the best cast we can.
"A bit of experience is helpful but anyone who is interested in singing and acting can apply."
Well-known songs in the musical include There is Nothin' Like a Dame, Bali Ha'i, I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair, A Wonderful Guy and Happy Talk.
Auditions for the musical will be held on Monday, June 22, at 7.30pm at the George Hogg Performance Venue, 122 Chermside Rd, East Ipswich.
Auditions will be open to all interested performers for both principal and chorus roles.
