Charge upgrade in bashed man case to be reviewed Friday

ALAN Robert Mitchell, 59, who received serious head injuries following an assault in Rockhampton, has died in hospital.

Mr Mitchell was brutally assaulted during an altercation with a 46-year-old man at an Ilott St home in Koongal on April 22.

It is alleged the victim's head was stomped on as he lay unconscious on the floor.

Police joined paramedics at the scene about 12.30am.

The victim was rushed to Rockhampton Hospital and flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital the next day.

He was later returned to Rockhampton Hospital, where he died yesterday.

Stanley Stanley was arrested at the house and was charged with grievous bodily harm in relation to the attack.

He appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates' Court on April 23 and remains in custody.

Rockhampton CIB officer-in-charge detective Senior-Sergeant Scott Moon said a post-mortem examination would be carried out on Friday.

"Once we have the results, a consideration will be made about upgrading the charge ( to murder)," he said.
