JOIN our live coverage and up-to-the minute day two scores of the first Ashes Test between Australia and England at the Gabba ground in Brisbane.

After claiming the vital wicket of star English batsman Joe Root late on day one, Pat Cummins has his eyes set on ripping through the lower order on the second day of the opening Test.

Cummins yesterday called the Root wicket the most special of his career as the tourists battled gamely to 4/196 at the close of play on a rain-interrupted first day.

"To set him up with a couple of overs of outswing and then get him with a big inswinger, that only comes off once in a hundred times," Cummins said at the close of play.

England pair Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali steered the team safely through to stumps and will be looking to push the total towards 300.
