THE chances of an accused armed robber getting bail were not helped when he was charged with assaulting a police officer in the watch house overnight.

Ashley Kenneth Scott Boney had been held in custody after being charged for the alleged armed robbery of the Greenwattle St Freedom Fuels service station on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on charges of armed robbery and entering a premises with intent on Thursday but his bail application was adjourned overnight so the status of his parole order could be ascertained.

However, he had a further charge of serious assault laid against him after he allegedly assaulted a watch house officer overnight, the same court heard.

His solicitor John Davidson said his client instructed he had been hearing voices and that those voices had told him the watch house officer concerned had been saying negative things about him.

Mr Davies said his client instructed him to continue the application for bail.

Boney was not required to enter any pleas to the charges.

Police claim Boney was caught at a Harlaxton address on Wednesday afternoon counting the money allegedly stolen in the armed robbery of the service station earlier that day.

Police claimed he had attempted to change his appearance by shaving his face and changing his clothes after the robbery which was captured by the store's CCTV cameras.

Mr Davis said the matters would have to go up to the District Court in which case his client could spend between nine and 14 months in custody before going to trial if not granted bail.

However, Acting Magistrate Roger Stark said he considered the prosecution case to be strong and refused bail and remanded Boney in custody to appear back in the same court for committal mention in two months time.
