Almost half mobile users buy online

AN EXPLOSION in the use of mobile devices to search and buy goods is revolutionising the way businesses connect with their customers.

Figures released by the Federal Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy showed 76% of Australians owned a smartphone last year, and this was expected to grow to 84% by the middle of this year.

Critically for businesses, 42% of mobile device users bought something online using their devices and 17% of users did this at least once a week.

Mobiles played a key role in research, with 38% of consumers using them to check prices and 43% checking reviews.

The figures make it clear that it is vital for businesses to have an online presence compatible with mobile devices.
