Agricultural production grew to $46.7 billion in 12 months
THE value of agricultural production rose 1% to $46.7 billion in the past year, figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed on Friday.
While it has been tough year for many on the farm, commodity production increases drove rises in the value of crops, up 2% to $25.6 billion.
Livestock slaughtering and other disposals were steady at $13.8 billion, while livestock products grew by 2% to $7.3 billion in 2011-12.
The biggest movers were canola, up 37% to $1.8 billion; cotton, up 23% to $2.3 billion and sugar cane, up 19% to $1.1 billion.
