MACKAY teen Aaliyah Warren is on the mend after putting on a brave face for her most recent live performance on The Voice.
The 17-year-old revealed to the Mercury she was battling a cold last week while she was being mentored by the Madden brothers and guest coaches The Veronicas.
"I was pretty sick last week and I just started to get better this past week," she said.
"Thankfully, Sunday was my best day (vocally)."
Ms Warren will need to be in top form for tomorrow's live semi-final show, which will have a different format to previous weeks.
At the beginning of the show viewers will learn which four singers out of the remaining eight have received the highest vote from each team. Those four artists will be fast-tracked through to the second half of the show.
The four artists with the least votes (one per team) must then perform to stay in the competition. Only two will make it through on an instant app vote mid-show to join the top four artists, resulting in a top six.
The final six singers will then perform their semi-final songs, followed by another instant app vote, and from there the final four singers will be determined for July 10's grand final.
The new semi-final voting system means not all coaches are guaranteed an artist in the grand final show.
This week, back under the mentorship of Benji and Joel Madden, Ms Warren has continued to work on overcoming her shyness.
"I've really realised that it takes a lot more time and effort to really get comfortable up there," she said.
"I still get really shy. During the first live show I thought it would all just come together and every week I'd progress really quickly, but I've learned it doesn't always happen as quickly as you'd like it to."
She hopes to get the opportunity to show off her guitar playing skills in tomorrow's semi-final show.
"Back home I do gigs all the time and I always play with my guitar," she said.
"I did talk to one of the producers about it and she said start practising, so hopefully I'll get to play.
"I would love to get up and sing something by Stevie Nicks, or Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac."
The Voice live semi-final airs tomorrow at 7pm on Channel 9.
