Painter turns celebrity chef's food into a work of art
A NUMBER of "firsts" will be checked off this weekend at the Hampton High Country Food and Arts Festival.
It will be the first time celebrity chef Poh Ling Yeow of Masterchef fame will visit the region and it will be the first time local artist Kym Breeze has painted in front of a live audience.
Ms Ling Yeow will conduct three live cooking demonstrations while Ms Breeze looks on and paints an artwork inspired by the unfolding events.
It is something Ms Ling Yeow is looking forward to.
"My background is in art and I have a real affinity for it," she said.
Ms Ling Yeow has already prepared a menu and hopes to showcase locally sourced ingredients.
"I have a list ready and I have centred the demonstration recipes to showcase particular ingredients," she said.
Those ingredients may also inspire Ms Breeze's art.
"Since Poh is an artist herself, the organisers thought it would fun to have me doing the artworks on large canvases (while she is cooking)," she said.
"I expect the end result will be nice and bright and abstract."
Ms Breeze has worked as an artist in Toowoomba for the past 11 years.
But this will be the first time she has completed an artwork in front of an audience and within an hour timeframe.
"I will use the ingredients, the vibe of the event and what she is cooking for inspiration," she said.
