Skydiver first to safely land without parachute or wingsuit

AMERICAN skydiver Luke Aikins has become the first person to land safely on the ground in a net without wearing a parachute or wingsuit.

It took the 42-year-old about two minutes to plummet into the 30m x 30m net after jumping out of a plane at an altitude of 7600m.

Mr Aikins said he considered pulling out after the Screen Actors Guild ordered him to wear a parachute to ensure his safety.

Although worried that would make impact far more dangerous, he decided to proceed, but was told minutes before the jump the parachute requirement had been dropped.
