NO ONE in the Immigration Minister's office read the controversial Border Force press release that led to massive protests in Melbourne on Friday.
News Corp on Sunday reported Minister Peter Dutton's office was sent a copy but because it was considered "routine", it was not read.
A spokesperson said Mr Dutton was never informed.
Victoria Police cancelled a planned joint agency operation on Friday at the last minute following an Australian Border Force statement that said it would be checking visas on the streets.
The statement led to protests locking down the centre of Melbourne on Friday afternoon.
However, Mr Dutton's office told News Corp the information it received suggested the operation was low level and the media release was not reviewed or cleared.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott has insisted the operation would not have seen the ABF performing visa checks on the streets.
