Law set to give Kiwis living here access to uni loans

LONG-TERM Kiwi residents of Australia could soon get access to Australia's university loans system, under a Turnbull Government move.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the changes would give New Zealand citizens who had been Australian residents since "childhood" access to the study loans from next year.

The Government would have to change visa laws to allow access for Kiwis, and if passed this year, the laws could let up to 2600 New Zealanders be eligible for the loans for university and higher level vocational education from 2016.
