UPDATE: Retiree Grahame Thomas' journey home with good friend Joyce Fragale took a foul turn when his four-wheel-drive tipped from a Sunshine Motorway exit ramp.

Mr Thomas, 71, had just picked up his friend from her son's home at Mooloolaba and was headed for Nanango when his car tipped on a horseshoe bend connecting the southbound lanes to the westbound lanes of the Motorway.

"I came around the corner and it was raining and the traffic was a bit slow, doing about 40kmh, and just got caught in the grease on the road and that was it," Mr Thomas said.

"As soon as the wheels started to lift I had no traction and away I went."

His car slid off the road about 10am, crashing into a fence and tipping on the passenger side.

Mr Thomas was able to climb out of his driver's side door but Ms Fragale was unable to get out.

Despite being trapped, she was not seriously injured.

"I checked to make sure my passenger was safe and everything and she was."

He said other motorists stopped to help him out.

"We had to get ladders to try and get Joyce out from inside the vehicle, rather than cut the thing to pieces.

"Everything worked out fine."

Ms Fragale was helped by firefighters to the ground before walking to an ambulance to be treated by paramedics.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said they took her to Caloundra Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The exit ramp was blocked while tow truck drivers organised to right the four-wheel-drive.

"We are just going to try to get the old girl (vehicle) back on her feet and continue on hopefully," Mr Thomas said.

EARLIER:

A CAR has rolled and a woman is trapped after a single vehicle rollover on the Sunshine Motorway at Mooloolaba this morning.

A car rolled on the Mooloolaba exit ramp about 10.15am, at the point where vehicles make a sharp "horseshoe" turn from the Sunshine Motorway to enter the east west side of the motorway, towards Brisbane.

The Landcruiser rolled and landed on a fence.

A man managed to free himself, while firefighters used a ladder to free a woman inside.

She was released from the vehicle, with some assistance and being assessed by paramedics.

Traffic is blocked to vehicles at the on-ramp.
