Just one vote separates candidates in Herbert

WITH 90.5% of the vote counted late yesterday afternoon, LNP incumbent Ewen Jones had taken a one-vote lead in the seat of Herbert.

The Queensland electorate is the only seat still in doubt following the July 2 federal poll.

Labor's Cathy O'Toole had been leading Mr Jones by nine votes late on Saturday.

It is expected the result will end up in the Court of Disputed Returns because about 85 army members from the region missed out on voting because they were on a defence force exercise.
