WHEN it came time to name her little prince and princesses, Linda Williams turned to the hit TV show Game of Thrones for inspiration.

Ms Williams, from Coes Creek, named Phoenix Arya Jane and Tywin George Geoffrey after characters in the fantasy drama.

The pair of six-month-olds, who make up two-thirds of the triplets around which Ms Williams' life revolves, are representative of a growing trend in which parents are looking to pop culture when naming their bundles of joy.

Phoenix takes her middle name from Arya Stark, the youngest daughter of the Stark clan at the centre of the series, while Tywin is named after Tywin Lannister, the ruthless lord who controls his family's empire.

Ms Williams and her partner Ash chose the names simply because they were fans of the show.

"We said, 'Let's just pick names', and they were names we particularly liked when we heard them.

When we found out we were expecting triplets, we said, 'Let's just pick several names'.

My partner really liked Tywin and Stannis (after Game of Thrones character Stannis Baratheon). But I said, 'I'm not going to name him Stannis', so I happily settled on Tywin."

The United States Social Security Administration, said Arya was the fastest-rising girls' name in the popularity stakes last year, jumping to No.413 on its list of most common monikers.

Isabella was the third-most popular girls' name, partly due to the success of the Twilight movie series.

Jacob, also a major character in the vampire-themed romance movies, maintained top spot.
