THE findings of a report into problems with the opening of the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane will guide the planning for the opening of the $2 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital in 2016, Health Minister Cameron Dick says.
Speaking on Friday after the release of the 23 recommendations from an independent review into the Lady Cilento, Mr Dick said a decision on the formal date for the opening of the Coast hospital would be influenced by the independent review.
"Labor will deliver a safe, world-class tertiary hospital for the people of the Sunshine Coast,'' he said.
"This government will not repeat the mistakes the LNP made at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital when it comes to commissioning the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
"We will fully implement all 23 recommendations from the independent review, which will strengthen the governance and improve the process for commissioning."
The Sunshine Coast hospital is being built as a private-public partnership with Exemplar Health - a partnership comprising Lend Lease, Siemens and Capella Capital.
It will open with 450 beds and the capacity to grow to 738, and more than 900 after 2021 if needed.
