THE smells of methanol, bacon and sea salt were combined as thousands turned out to watch motorbikes racing at Grasstree Beach on Father's Day.

The Bullet Bikes Yamaha Blu Cru Motorcycle Beach Race featured 37 races across a 250m, 500m and 750m track, with hundreds of riders across 13 classes.

Despite a later than anticipated start - and a rider being carted off in an ambulance in one of the first races - the crowd were on their feet watching the seaside action.

The day had a family atmosphere as well, with free jumping castles and face painting, market stalls, food vans and trick motorbike performers Eljay Freestyle Entertainment keeping the crowds enthralled.

The winner of the King of the Beach Steve Dinsdale memorial trophy for the second year in the row was Damien Koppe, who was tough to beat in the 0-300cc 4 stroke and 451-750cc 4 stroke classes.
