UPDATE: Council has approved a 300-room workers camp at Oakey despite objections from the community.

The developers say the camp will provide accommodation for workers on projects like the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and the third stage of the New Acland coal mine.

The camp will be built at the intersection of Beale and Gayle Sts, which is currently vacant industrial and rural land.

Many of the public's concerns centred on how close the camp will be located to the Oakey Army Aviation Centre.

EARLIER: A PROPOSED 300-room workers camp just west of Toowoomba will be considered by Toowoomba Regional Council's development assessment panel tomorrow.

The developers say the camp in Oakey will provide accommodation for workers on projects like the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and the third stage of the New Acland coal mine.

The Qantac Properties development includes a first stage of 13 blocks of 12-bedroom units, a kitchen, administration building, gym and 100 car parks.

Stage two involves 12 more blocks of units and 100 additional car parks.

If approved it will be built at the intersection of Beale and Gayle Sts, which is currently vacant industrial and rural land.

Council has received three public submissions opposing the development and one in favour.

Many of the public's concerns centre on how close the workers camp is to the Oakey Army Aviation Centre.

Council's planning department has recommend the proposal be approved with conditions.

The development assessment panel will meet at City Hall at 2pm tomorrow.
