Mao's Last Dancer the exhibition: A Portrait of Li Cunxin features never-before-seen interviews, performance footage and personal artefacts in an intimate portrait of a contemporary Australian icon.

 

Climbing web

From now until April 25 at the Ipswich Art Gallery

REACH new heights at the Ipswich Art Gallery with the latest exhibition. Climbing Web features a hand-crocheted climbing tunnel by artist Evelyn Roth that fills the entire Children's Gallery. It is a large-scale multi-coloured crocheted net suspended from the gallery ceiling. Complete with energetic music and spinning disco lights, it's an exciting and safe environment where kids can climb, tumble, dive and spin while safely suspended off the ground. It is free to attend and the exhibition is open from 10am-5pm daily.

Create a masterpiece with LEGO and other construction systems. LEGO Brick Challenge Holiday Workshops (additional cost, bookings essential) The LEGO Brick Challenge is an exciting new program that introduces students between the ages of six to 12 years, the basic principles of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) through the use of motorised LEGO bricks.

Bookings are essential. Time: 9.30am and 1pm (duration three hours). Cost $25 a child (includes museum entry for one child and one parent or guardian).

Artists featured are Gary Abkin, Tim Acutt, Chenaya Bancroft-Davis, Annie Clarke, Donna Davis, Charmaine Davis, Mieke den Otter, Colleen Gardener, Angela Geertsma, Sally Harrison, Lizzett Kim, Wayne McDonnell, Sharon McKenzie, Deb Mostert, Kate Roberts, Andrew Spark and Helen Vere.

Many of the pieces displayed have been acquired through the Ipswich Art Awards over the past 15 years and are shown in conjunction with this year's Ipswich Festival. Time from 10am-5pm. Free.

 

Imagination

THIS selection of new works by award winning local artist Margaret Klumpp uses splashes of vibrant colours and a simple mixture of styles, strokes and textures, leaving all imagination to the theatre of the mind.

Watercress Creek Olive Festival

ENJOY everything that country hospitality has to offer with a visit to the annual Watercress Creek Olive Festival. Wander through the fabulous stalls offering a mouth-watering range of olive oils, pickled olives and other tempting products.

Taste a variety of fine wines from Bunjurgen Vineyard Estate, relish the scrumptious cheeses from the French cheesemaker and meet local producers from around the district. From 9am to 3pm.
