MOTHER-of-five Deanne Wilson is one of the first Toowoomba parents to purchase a new child identification kit which is used in case a child disappears or is abducted.

The Find Me Safe kit allows parents to record their child's DNA and fingerprints in the kit at home.

Mrs Wilson, 36, received five kits on Tuesday and will complete them this week.

“It contains strands of (your child's) hair, fingerprints, a dental chart, a handwriting sample, a current photo, personal and medical information, and a picture of a body where you indicate birth marks and scars,” she said.

“Until the weekend, I hadn't heard of anything like this in Australia. It is wide-spread in the (United) States.

“If one of my children went missing or become lost, I would go into a state of panic and wouldn't be able to think clearly.

“I think it is such a good idea. It is all in a DVD case which is ready to hand over (to police).”

Mrs Wilson said she and her husband had spoken to their children about “stranger danger”.

Gold Coast-based company Kids Aware is selling about 300 kits each week.

Company owner Adam Fairhead, 24, created the kit after seeing a family holidaying at a hotel he was managing lose their five-year-old boy.

The kits can be purchased online at www.kidsaware.com.au for $12.95.
