THE Rotary Club of Ipswich North has given away about $80,000 in the past 12 months.

Major beneficiaries have been Habitat for Humanity and Ipswich Hospice, with 14 other groups also gaining support.

Newly elected president Les Thornton hopes to continue the “success” achieved by his predecessor Gerard Pender.

Fundraising projects include the Christmas trailer raffle, a gala dinner and auction, Willowbank Raceway parking duties, and a golf day in March.

“Membership has been growing,” Mr Thornton said.

“I've found it's a very flexible organisation and, because people's needs change, a member can decide the level of commitment each year.

“It's a broadbased club, with members across the community.

“Some of the benefits of the Rotary club are the fellowship and personal development that occurs for individual members.

“It's important that members enjoy being in it.”

The club meets every Tuesday at the Ipswich Golf Club from 6pm.

For more information, phone Mr Thornton on 0438 124 071.
