Shock diagnosis

IPSWICH nurse Caroline Matthews went from being a carer to a patient overnight, after a shock diagnosis.

IPSWICH nurse Caroline Matthews went from being a carer to a patient overnight, after a shock diagnosis.

Three years ago she was told she had a fist-sized brain tumour, after having an MRI scan to find out how it felt for her patients.

“I was 26 and perfectly healthy so didn't think anything would come of it - it was just for fun,” she said.

“They told me if it wasn't found when it was, I would have been unable to walk within two months.

“I was in complete and total shock. I went from being a carer to patient overnight.”

Mrs Matthews underwent surgery and radiation treatment and has returned to work on a part-time basis.

She is revved up and roaring to go on the Cruise for Cancer motorcycle fundraiser day next month.

Riders on more than 120 Harley-Davidsons are set to start at Toowoomba and travel through Clifton and Warwick before returning to Toowoomba.

Mrs Matthews took part in the cruise last year and said the ride was a fantastic experience.

“Being on the back of a Harley is the most exciting, thrilling experience ever,” she said.

“My husband and I both went pillion on the Cruise for Cancer last year and it was awesome. It's a whole lot of fun.”

Last year the event raised more than $27,000 for Cancer Council Queensland.
