Sunny Coast siblings serve up "pub food" on My Kitchen Rules

SUNSHINE COAST siblings Jake and Elle Harrison showed this series of My Kitchen Rules is the hottest in its history.

The brother and sister talked up their skills in the kitchen, but their instant restaurant Costa Del Sol at their Minyama home did not satisfy everyone who dined there in last night's episode.

Team Tassie said the Queensland team had talked themselves up and didn't deliver. 

From the long-running MKR promos viewers already knew it would a fiery episode, with glimpses of something catching alight on the stove top and Elle screaming out for a fire extinguisher.

But the fire was only one of several dramas in the team's preparations.

Elle scrambled her first batch of basil ice cream, Jake forgot to put the blade on their mincer and their first batch of pasta was botched after Jake forgot to sift the flour.

Their choice of a T-bone steak for the main course was questioned, and the pedestrian cut of meat proved to be their downfall.

Although their guests had expected fancy food, host Pete Evans labelled it "pub food".

But the pair redeemed themselves somewhat with their creative dessert.

Jake said he was aiming for 80 or higher on the score board but the cooking enthusiasts fell into second last place with 65 out of 100.

Elle and Jake said they believed they deserved a higher score, but were happy to be above Jessie and Biswa from NSW.

Elle said at the time it was scary experience but afterwards she and her brother laughed about it.
