HE LEADS the series but is unlikely to be the man most riders will be out to beat in tonight's Australian Supercross Championships round at Toowoomba Showgrounds.
Jay Marmont rides for Troy Carroll's Toowoomba-based Monster Energy Kawasaki team and holds a five-point lead at the top of the Pro Open standings ahead of Yamaha rider Daniel McCoy.
But the appearance of international motocross star Chad Reed for three rounds of the series has him as the rider a lot of competitors will be keen to beat.
Marmont is one of those guys hoping to relegate Reed down the finishing order, especially as he would love to build on his series lead before the final round in Newcastle next Saturday.
The series leader had to settle for second in the latest round at Phillip Island a fortnight ago but is keen to turn the tables on Reed, who rode in Australia for the first time in years during that round.
"Chad's an exceptional rider and he'll be hard to beat any weekend but it was the closest I've finished to Chad for a long time," Marmont said of finishing two seconds behind Reed at Phillip Island.
"If I can give him a run and try and take that start away from him and try and put a bit more pressure on him that would be good."
And given Marmont and his team spend about 12 weeks testing in Toowoomba, he was keen to do well at Toowoomba Showgrounds.
