THE stress of end-of-year exams can't take the edge off the excitement of Redbank Plains business student Shannon Scott's amazing win.

Mrs Scott has helped the Ipswich and West Moreton Zonta Club scoop up its first Jane M Klausman international scholarship.

This annual award was established in 1998 with a generous bequest from the estate of Jane M Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York.

Women pursuing an undergraduate or masters degree in business management are eligible.

Zonta Club of West Moreton president Margaret Llewellyn said two local applicants were nominated for 2012, Shannon Scott and Tracey Holt.

"Shannon won the District 22 award, which takes in all of Queensland, and from there went on to compete at an international level," she said.

"She is one of the 12 international winners of this prestigious award.

"Our club has never had an international winner and we are obviously very proud that Shannon has achieved this through her hard work."

Mrs Scott said she was urged to apply for the scholarship by USQ's associate director for the Springfield campus and Zonta member Marie Kavanagh.

"What this award means to me is the reduction in financial stress and hardship on our household," she said.

"I believe the scholarship will help me by providing an opportunity to create a balance within my life so that I am able to apply myself in my studies, but also to still be an engaged mother and wife to my family without worrying where the funds for textbooks and other resources will come from.

"With one income and two children, figuring out how we can afford textbooks each semester is hard.

"Hopefully the scholarship can assist with opening some doors for me in the accounting industry."
