HARRISON Parker can do something many other hockey players can't do; play goalie.
While it's not the position the goal-scorers like to be in Parker loves the role, which just happens to be one of the most vital spots in the team.
Although he's fit and trim Parker doesn't run the length of the field, instead he gears up to half his size in padding and takes on every challenge the opposition shoots his way.
Mega saves when a ball went over his head and almost into the box was made when Parker threw his hands up in the air and deflected the ball off his hockey stick.
The goalkeeper's passion for defence has scored him a spot in the state under-13 indoor boys' hockey team, which will take part in a national invitational championship.
The championships will be held in Canberra over the Australia Day weekend.
Parker, who's played hockey for almost half his life, scored the position after being scouted at representative events in 2012.
The rep duties called for Parker to step up a level and paly for Gympie's U15 indoor boys team that competed in the state championships in Maryborough last year.
He's also represented Wide Bay and one day hopes to play for Australia.
"He's always dreamed of playing for Australia as a goalie," Parker's father Brian said.
Brian, who is learning the sport with his children, says both he and his son love the game but try to keep the right attitude about it.
"You play to win but still take it as friendly, that's what I try to install into him," Parker said.
The young hockey lover will head to Canberra next week for the championships, which comes soon after returning from a goal-keeping clinic in Bundaberg.
Parker is already rubbing shoulders with the best in the sport, with the clinic hosted by Australian Hockeyroo Rachael Lynch.
